2011 President’s Message

It is my great privilege to serve as President of FAHQ this year. We believe this will be a pivotal year for the healthcare quality field and FAHQ, as we adapt to the many changes which are occurring in healthcare. So we (the FAHQ Board) created a strategic plan which addresses not only member needs now based on your survey input, but what we foresee as needs over the next few years to ensure we can provide our members long term value. Some of the things we will be working on include:

  1. We will increase our educational offerings in accreditation and regulatory compliance. You've asked for this at regional meetings, in CPHQ classes this past year, and in our recent membership survey. You will see some topical programs in our webinar series, in our program selection for the 2012 conference and more articles/columns in our newsletter.

  2. We recognize that part of education is mentoring, so we will be looking into the feasibility of starting a formal mentoring program. We have launched a team this year to help define this program and, if such a program seems workable, establish the operational parameters and recruit mentors. Let us know if you wish to be a part of creating this exciting new program.

  3. We will continue to engage in strategic relationships which may benefit our member needs and our organizational goals. Being a part of the IHI Florida Node program has provided a wealth of information this past year. We will continue this relationship and investigate potential new alliances which help support our member needs.

  4. We are creating a new team this year whose goal will be to create a Speaker's Bureau which can serve as a resource for regional groups and our education team, as well as university programs or public groups who wish to find speakers on healthcare quality topics. We know we have many talented members who are also great teachers. What a great way to give back to your profession!

  5. Our membership survey indicated that many of you are having difficulty recruiting knowledgeable staff given the growing complexity of our field. We have put together a new team to investigate how we can help in preparing people entering the field. Are there resources out there we can bring to Florida or programs and resources we need to create? This is a huge undertaking and we've been able to put together a very talented group of your peers to do this important work!

  6. We are expanding our outreach. We recognize that face-to-face encounters often generate discussions and information beyond what surveys can gather. We have made it the role of every President-elect to visit the regional groups to hear your voice so we can better meet your professional needs.

These are just a few of the projects we will be working on during this term. Plans are great, but none of this is possible without good people willing to give their time to the cause. As you know, FAHQ does not have any paid staff, but functions solely on the support of our volunteers. I invite you to join with us in these exciting plans by joining a team! Team Me Up forms can be downloaded from the home page of this website, where you can indicate your interest in serving. Or go to the leadership page of this website, where you can contact team leaders directly. Listen to your heart and please join in the work, camaraderie and fun of serving your profession!

Warm regards,

Claudia Jackson, MBA, MS Ed, PT, CPHQ
President, FAHQ
